Workshop: Brainstorming the Area and the Creation of Research Agenda

Thursday 1 - Thursday 1 February 2024

The BAFA Public Services and Charities Special Interest Group is delighted to announce its second brainstorming event  at the University of Manchester on Thursday, 1 February 2024 (10.0–15:40). The objectives of the day are to: (i) identify a research agenda for academics and research students researching public services and charities; (ii) support that agenda with ideas regarding such matters as problematisation of issues, possible useful theories and methodologies; and, (iii) create an output that can be widely circulated to public-sector and charity accounting scholars.

Attendees will be asked to work in groups to discuss multiple areas of interest. Four key broad areas of investigation will be considered (as well as combinations within these themes):

1.The NHS;
2. The charitable sector;
3. Central and local government; and
4. Universities.

Attendance at the event is free, however, participants are required to register by 16 January 2024 at the link for room-booking and catering purposes:

Subsequent to the event, and based on the discussions that took place, a write-up will be prepared by the academics leading each session. The main output from the event will be a useful research agenda (including points of steering with respect to possible approaches, theories and methodologies) in the area of public-service and charity research. This will be circulated across the BAFA channels, and more broadly, to existing academics and potential research students.
