3rd Alternative Accounts Europe Conference 2021

The Interdisciplinary Perspectives SIG and Queen Mary University of London

The Third Alternative Accounts Europe Conference will be hosted online by the School of Business & Management, Queen Mary University of London on Tuesday, 5 January 2021. This conference aims to bring together faculty and doctoral students who are working within the broad category of the interdisciplinary and critical accounting project. The conference offers a space to showcase research that is challenging to perceived wisdoms both in terms of content and form. To that end, we are delighted to announce that the plenary speakers will be:

• Professor Christine Cooper (University of Edinburgh)
• Professor Sonja Gallhofer (University of Glasgow)

Call for Papers

Deadline: 6 November 2020

We seek papers from all accounting sub-disciplines including but not limited to:

• accountability
• accounting for the public interest and the relationship between accounting and the state;
• accounting profession; audit, ethics and corporate governance and organisational culture;
• accounting’s role in climate change, sustainability, health and wellbeing, biodiversity and
  ecological accounting;
• accounting’s role in politics and political discourse;
• accounting and social conflict and counter-accounting;
• financial accounting’s role in the processes of international capital formation, including its
• impact on stock market stability and international banking activities;
• management accounting’s role in the organisation and control of labour;
• accounting history, accounting and imperialism and post-colonialism; and
•  accounting’s role in the globalization processes and in promoting neoliberalism and
  financialization.

The use of a variety of theoretical and methodological framings and empirically or theoretically-based or a literature review papers are welcome. Paper acceptance will be judged based on the originality and significance of the paper, emphasising how the work provides an alternative understanding to the subject matter. The conference is to be hosted online by the AARG (Accounting and Accountability Research Group) at Queen Mary, University of London. We are seeking contributions initially in the form of extended abstracts and working papers.

Timeline

Please submit an extended abstract (about 500 words) or a working paper by email to aargsubmissions@qmul.ac.uk no later than 6 November, 2020. Please use the subject line Alternative Accounts Europe Conference 2021. The final decision will be communicated by 30 November, 2020. Successful authors are invited to submit full working papers after that if they have not already done so.

There is no charge for attending the conference, but attendees must book a place by 15 December 2020. Buying a ticket registers you for this event – please use this link to book a place for the conference.

Joining instructions will be issued after this date along with instructions for presenters. We anticipate using MSTeams and presenters will be invited to present using Powerpoint.
