FMI SIG Annual Conference 2023

The conference will be hosted on 13-14 September 2023 by the Centre for Finance, Technology and Society at Nottingham Business School at the Nottingham Trent University. The Business School is conveniently located in the centre of Nottingham in the iconic Newton Building. The joint conference Chairs will be Professor John Ashton and Professor James Devlin.

The purpose of the Conference will be to facilitate research through supportive debate discussion, and the generation of ideas and of course, to provide an opportunity to network, catch up with old friends and make new ones.

Call for Papers

Deadline: 21 July 2023

We are pleased to invite academics, researchers, PhD students and professionals to submit research papers for presentation at the conference of the BAFA Financial Markets and Institutions Special Interest Group.

Established in 2007, the Financial Markets and Institutions Special Interest Group brings together academics with research and scholarly interests in financial markets and institutions, broadly defined. The group is inclusive by nature and open to contributions on financial markets and institutions from a range of disciplinary perspectives. We hope this forum can provide UK based opportunities to assist new and prospective academics together with more established scholars.

Submission Guidelines

Submission of full papers will be considered in areas of Finance, Accountancy, Actuarial Science, Banking and other cognate fields. The conference is friendly and supportive in tenor and an early expression of interest is encouraged to avoid disappointment. We actively encourage new researchers and PhD students to present their work at the conference.

There are no strict style guidelines for the conference, but please ensure that all figures and tables are provided along with submissions in an accessible form and that work is fully referenced using one of the main accepted methods (e.g. Harvard, APA etc.)

Opens: 14 March 2023
Closes: for accepted authors on 18 August 2023, for everyone else on 31 August 2023.

Fees:

Academics and Other Participants: £300
PhD students: £150

Registration is via your BAFA membership account. 

The conference fee is inclusive of buffet lunches and tea, coffee and refreshments. All accommodation to be organised by the participants at their own cost.

All delegates must be a member of the British Accounting and Finance Association.  Non-BAFA Members will need to join BAFA to attend the conference. Further details of the benefits of membership and where to join are available at https://bafa.ac.uk/membership/. The BAFA membership fee is £30, or £15 for PhD students and retired academics.

Travel & Accommodation 

Travel and joining instructions will be available in due course. However, we would recommend considering traveling by train/public transport as car parking in Nottingham city centre is limited and expensive.

Delegates need to find their own accommodation. Some of you may want to get ahead of the game and reserve accommodation. A quick google search will provide a comprehensive listing of the many accommodation options, but the following hotels may be of particular interest:

• Premier Inn Goldsmith Street, a five minute walk from the conference venue yet still central and with easy access to city centre attractions (No onsite parking)
• Premier Inn Chapel Bar, a ten minute walk and very central (No onsite parking)
• IBIS Hotel Nottingham, a ten minute walk and very central (No onsite parking)
• Crowne Plaza Nottingham, a five minute walk (Paid parking available onsite)
• Best Western Plus Nottingham, a ten minute walk. (Limited paid onsite parking that must be pre-booked)
• Park Plaza Hotel Nottingham, a ten minute walk. (Limited paid onsite parking that must be pre-booked)
• Lace Market Hotel, a  fifteen minute walk. (An upmarket option. No onsite parking)

We cannot necessarily vouch for the quality of any of the above but we would strongly suggest NOT staying in the Britannia Hotel which does not enjoy the best of reputations.

Nottingham is a vibrant and exciting city famed for its culture and nightlife, its unique place in history, world class sporting venues and culinary delights, We are confident that you will become more acquainted with at least some of these on your visit.
