27th Workshop on Accounting and Finance in Emerging Economies

The organising committee of the Accounting and Finance in Emerging Economies Special Interest Group (AFEE SIG) is pleased to announce its annual workshop, to be hosted by Westminster Business School, University of Westminster, London, on Monday, 15 December 2025. Opportunity for networking at the pre-workshop dinner (at your own cost) on Sunday 14 December. 

The workshop aims to bring together academics researching on accounting and finance issues in emerging economies. The workshop also aims to raise the level of interest in the specific problems of accounting and finance in emerging economies; increase awareness of the unique challenges they present; and facilitate meaningful academic debates that can effectively contribute to the accounting and finance literature. It provides an authoritative overview of the current research and advancements in the field.

The coverage of the workshop includes, but is not restricted to:

  • Accounting and accountability issues
  • Accounting and finance in socio-economic development and poverty reduction
  • Accounting history
  • Accounting practices in family businesses and SMEs
  • Accounting, regulation, and privatisation
  • Auditing and internal controls
  • Climate risk management and accounting
  • Corporate governance, executive compensation, risk management and reporting
  • Diversity and inclusion in accounting and finance research
  • Education, training and the role of professional accounting bodies
  • Finance and accounting for regional transition
  • Finance and banking issues, including behavioural accounting and finance
  • Financial reporting and accounting standards, including international financial reporting standards
  • Green financing and FinTech
  • Management accounting, including strategic performance management and social and environmental accounting
  • Public sector accounting and reforms, including new public management
  • The impact of culture, religion, ethnicity, and history on accounting and finance
  • The impact of structural adjustment programmes on accounting practices

Paper Submission:

Extended Deadline: 29 September 2025 15 September 2025 (17:00 BST)

Full papers should be submitted to afee-sig@bafa.ac.uk by 17:00 (BST) Monday, 15 September 2025. The outcome of submissions will be communicated to authors by Monday 6th October 2025. (Please note that early submissions, will be reviewed on a rolling basis)

Best Paper Awards:

Two Best Paper Awards will be presented to doctoral and early career researchers whose work represents impactful research in the Emerging Economy Context.

Registration closes:  30 November 2025.

Fees:

Academic staff: £85
PhD students/doctoral candidates: £50

If you are not already a member of BAFA, please sign up for membership.  The annual fee for BAFA membership is £30 for academic staff and £15 for doctoral students..

Accommodation is at a premium in London, and the earlier you can secure your place, the better.
