33rd Audit & Assurance Conference

Thursday 18 - Friday 19 May 2023 Edinburgh University Business School, Scotland

    The 33rd Audit & Assurance Conference, organised by the Auditing Special Interest Group (SIG) of the British Accounting & Finance Association (BAFA), will be held at the Edinburgh University Business School on 18–19 May 2023. The conference has been supported since its inception by various accounting bodies, our current supporters being the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Audit Analytics and Aston University Business School. Their support has been invaluable through the years.

    The conference aims to provide a forum which: i) allows faculty from higher education establishments to meet and exchange ideas and experiences, ii) encourages the discussion of educational objectives and teaching methodologies within auditing courses, and iii) promotes the dissemination of current research and professional practice in auditing and assurance, and auditing education. The conference offers a unique mix of distinguished expert speakers in the areas of auditing and assurance (incl. audit education) and it provides highlights of the latest unpublished academic research on auditing and assurance. The conference also addresses critical auditing issues arising from the recent discussions and developments by various international regulatory bodies.

    The conference has been successfully held at venues around the UK or Ireland for the past 31 years and attracts a mix of international academic and professional speakers.

    Deadline: 25 April for presenters and the 11 May for delegates.

    In-person Conference Fee (includes conference attendance, conference pack, lunch on both days, conference dinner, and refreshments on both days):

    • In-person full rate - £300
    • Doctoral Student full rate - £100

    Doctoral Students

    We can accept only a small number of doctoral students paying the Doctoral Student rate, and as a result, early registration is encouraged. In addition, doctoral students, taking advantage of the Doctoral Student rate, are required to submit their doctoral thesis proposal and a letter/email of support from their first supervisor.     CALL FOR PAPERS (CLOSED)

    Paper submission date: 28 January 2023

    The conference organising committee is accepting papers in any area of auditing and assurance research (including audit education and pedagogy).Please consider submitting a paper or attending the conference (especially if you are planning to attend the European Accounting Association conference in Helsinki, Finland that is held a few days later). Papers should be submitted to ilias G Basioudis at the email: i.g.basioudis@aston.ac.uk.

    All submitted papers will undergo a blind review process. See more details here.
