Workshop on developing your teaching innovations into recognised outputs

Description and Target Audience

The BAFA Accounting Education SIG is delighted to offer a developmental workshop on 12–13 September 2024 to be held in Glasgow (venue to be confirmed).

The workshop is aimed at SIG members who are at an early stage in their research journey and have not yet published an accounting education paper in a peer-reviewed journal or another significant accounting education output, or have not done so for at least 5 years and have not attended a previous in person workshop with the SIG.

We expect that workshop participants will have innovations or ideas in accounting education, to be developed into a research paper or other recognised output. The ideas are likely to be at the stage where they would benefit from some guidance on how to develop the research for an output in preparation for submission as a recognised output in the field of accounting education.

The workshop will be active. The facilitators will lead discussions on the core elements of developing research and the expectations of journals or other outputs. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss their work gaining feedback from the workshop facilitators and other participants. Additionally, participants will be guided to critique and discuss the work of others; a skill that can greatly help one’s own research development.

The workshop facilitators will be Greg Stoner, Alan Sangster, Joan Ballantine, Olga Cam and Karen McBride (provisionally).

When, Where and Cost

Date and time: Start: 12 September at 09:30 – End 13 September c.16:30. Participants will be expected to attend all sessions in person

Location: Glasgow

There will be no fee for the workshop and funding for hotel costs of up to £150/night will be available for those that need it (for the nights of 12 and 13 September), i.e. for those who are not local and who cannot get funding from their Departments/Schools. Travel to be self or School/Department funded.

How to Apply

To apply to attend the workshop, please complete the application form and send it to Greg Stoner (ae-sig@bafa.ac.uk) and Karen McBride (karen.mcbride@port.ac.uk) by 28 June 2024.

Please note: participants need to submit their draft ideas/innovations (between 500 and 1000 words) one month in advance of the workshop, i.e. by 16 August so that proposals can be distributed to other participants for comment and review.

Information session: What’s it all About (Zoom), 11 June 2024, 11:00 (BST)

To encourage members to apply for the workshop and/or to help members determine if the workshop is for them, an information session will be held on Zoom on 11 June, 11:00-11.30. (please email karen.mcbride@port.ac.uk to receive the zoom link for the session). The session will briefly outline the key elements of an idea/innovation, that will need to be in place to prepare a draft proposal for inclusion in the workshop.

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions etc.
