Executive Board

The members of the BAFA South-East Area Group's Executive Board are:

Chair: Professor Monomita Nandy (Monomita.nandy@brunel.ac.uk)

Dr. Monomita Nandy is currently a Professor in Accounting and Finance at Brunel Business School (BBS), Brunel University of London (UK), and the Vice Dean International of the College of Business, Arts and Social Sciences (CBASS). She has completed her two PhDs from the University of Calcutta, India, and the University of Rome Torvergata, Italy. Prior to joining Brunel University, she held academic and research positions at Lally Business School, New York, Radboud University, Holland, Surrey University, UK and leading institutes in India. She is very popular among students and obtained Student-led best teacher awards. She is awarded for her innovative and technology-led teaching. She is interested in interdisciplinary research focused on digitalisation in achievement of sustainable development goals alongside her disciplinary research in emerging issues in Corporate Finance. Her research works are published in high impact international peer-reviewed journals like IJFE, JBE, TIJA, BSE and others. She acts as an associate editor of the leading journals, IJFE and IJFS. She is the chair of the South-East group of the British Accounting and Finance Association, Vice Chair -Research engagement at EICBI, a member of the IMA Technology Solutions & Practices (TSP) Committee (USA), a board member of the Centre for AI and Lab Leader at Centre for Entrepreneurship and Sustainability, Brunel University of London. She is also a research advisor at companies in the UK and abroad, like Qi Digital, UK and Exergie, Nigeria.

Secretary: Dr. Md Tarikul Islam (tarikul.islam@greenwich.ac.uk)

Tarikul is a Senior Lecturer in Management Accounting at the University of Greenwich. Prior to this, he worked for De Montfort University, University of Essex, Sohar University (Oman), Jahangirnagar University (Bangladesh), and Khulna University (Bangladesh). He holds a PhD in Accountancy from the Queensland University of Technology (Australia). In a couple of master’s degree programs, he studied business and management at KTH-Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid (Spain), Delft University of Technology (Netherlands), Universite Paris-Sud11 (France), and Jahangirnagar University (Bangladesh).

Tarikul is an interdisciplinary researcher across the research domains of accountability, entrepreneurship, and technology adoption. While corporate accountability within the broader social and environmental accounting theme is the primary focus, he is equally comfortable with accountability in the public sector and healthcare. In entrepreneurship, his research interests include entrepreneurial intention, women entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship. His papers have been published in the Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Journal of Business Ethics, Annals of Operations Research, Marine Policy, and Meditari Accountancy Research.

Treasurer: Professor Salma Ibrahim (s.ibrahim@kingston.ac.uk)

Salma Ibrahim has been Treasurer at BAFA-SEAG since 2020. She is currently a professor of accounting at Kingston University and research lead of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Informatics. She established and currently leads the 'Accountability, Governance and the Capital Market' research group, which conducts research on financial reporting and governance among other topics. Her research interests revolve around earnings management, executive compensation, and recently accounting for intangible assets.

Media Executive: Dr Xianmin Liu (Xianmin.Liu@greenwich.ac.uk)

Xianmin Liu has been a member of the Executive Committee at BAFA-SEAG since 2023. He is currently a Lecturer in Finance at Greenwich Business School, University of Greenwich, with a research focus on corporate finance (especially M&A), sustainable finance, innovation, and corporate governance.
