We are delighted to invite submissions to the Joint Annual Conference of the Corporate Finance & Asset Pricing SIG and Northern Area Group. The year’s conference will be hosted by Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University on 19 May 2025.
Keynote Speaker
Professor Jim Haslam
Jim Haslam is a Professor of Accounting at Durham University (being there Research Director) and Jordan. After graduating at Sheffield (1981) and chartered accountancy he has over forty years academic service (main positions: Aston, Bangor, LSE, Essex, Waikato, Heriot-Watt, Dundee, Newcastle, Sheffield and Durham), many years as HoD and PG/Research director. At Essex he completed his PhD. He was visitor/consultant to universities/governments across the world and guest speaker at conferences in the UK, Spain, Lithuania, Turkey, China, New Zealand, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina. He is on several journal editorial boards. He has over 100 outputs contributing to, e.g., theorising accounting, counter and emancipatory accounting, Bentham’s accounting writings, social analysis, methodology, transparency/accountability and accounting and culture. Current interests include developing accounting education.
Panel Discussion on Career Development
The conference will feature a dynamic and insightful panel discussion focused on career development both within academia and beyond. This session aims to equip researchers, scholars, and early-career academics with valuable guidance and practical strategies to successfully navigate their professional journeys. Senior academics will share their experiences and offer advice on key aspects of career planning and advancement. Topics of discussion will include, but not limited to crafting an academic CV, navigating job interview, building professional networks, and issues related to career developments.

Parallel Sessions and Discussants
Each accepted paper will be assigned a dedicated discussant to ensure authors receive constructive feedback. We consider this feedback an integral aspect of the conference, aimed at supporting authors in enhancing the quality and impact of their research. To promote this collaborative learning environment, presenters will be expected to take on the role of discussants for other submissions.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The conference's overarching theme is: “ Innovating for Sustainable Futures: Accounting and Finance in the Age of Global Challenges”. This conference aims to bring together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers in the fields of accounting and finance to share innovative research and ideas on how our disciplines can address pressing global challenges.
With the world facing unprecedented issues such as climate change, economic inequality, geopolitical instability, and technological disruption, we hold pivotal roles in creating sustainable solutions. We invite the submission of original research papers, case studies, and posters that investigate these topics from accounting and/or finance perspectives. Submissions may encompass a broad range of topics, including but not limited to:
- Financial Innovations for Sustainable Development: how FinTech, blockchain, and AI transform corporate finance for sustainable growth
- Sustainable Finance, Investment Strategies, and Risk Management
- Behavioural Finance and Sustainability: the impact of behavioural factors on sustainability decision-making
- Sustainable Asset Pricing and Climate Risk: how environmental risks influence asset pricing and valuation
- Digital Asset Pricing in Disruptive Markets: how digital transformation reshapes asset pricing dynamics
- Market Microstructure and Liquidity Dynamics: the effects of emerging technologies and regulatory changes on market liquidity
- Sustainability Reporting and Accounting: the role of ESG, integrated, and non-financial disclosures in sustainability measurement
- Technological Advances in Auditing and Financial Accountability: the role of AI and blockchain in transforming auditing and enhancing transparency
- Public Policy, Regulation, and Corporate Sustainability: how policy and regulatory frameworks foster sustainable corporate practices
- Global Crises and Financial Accountability: impact of geopolitical conflicts and global crises on financial systems and accounting practice
The conference is featured by a keynote speech, parallel sessions, poster sessions, a panel discussion on employment and career development, and a meet-the-editor session. Each paper will be assigned a dedicated discussant to ensure authors receive constructive feedback.
Paper Submission
Deadline: 2 May 2025
We welcome submissions at various stages of development, including extended abstract, early stage working papers and fully developed papers. We offer scholars the chance to showcase their work during a poster session (A3). Please submit your work via email to Associate Professor Yan Wang (yan.wang@ntu.ac.uk) with “BAFA NAG 2025” in the subject of your email.
Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with a prompt decision on your submission to facilitate timely participation. We encourage early submissions to secure your spot in the programme and benefit from constructive feedback on your presentation.
Best Paper Awards
The Best Paper and Best Poster awards will acknowledge the excellence, dedication, and anticipated influence of the research presented at the conference.

The conference dinner will take place at the Cosy Club in Nottingham, a beautifully restored Grade II listed building originally designed in 1869-70. With a rich history as a club and casino before its reopening in 2020, the venue seamlessly combines historic charm with modern elegance, providing a distinctive and sophisticated setting for the event. PhD Grants
The organizing committee will offer a number of grants to support PhD students attending the conference. Applicants must submit their grant application along with their paper submission by the deadline of 2 May 2025, and provide proof of full-time student status. Each awarded grant will cover £50 of the registration fee.
