Vacancies: Three New Roles on the BAFA Executive Committee
There are several opportunities open for volunteers to work with BAFA. We accept self-nominations and nominations from friends/colleagues for posts. Please do not be too modest or wait to be asked – your interest in any of these positions would be very much welcomed.
BAFA Executive Committee
BAFA is seeking nominations for three new roles on its Executive Committee:
- Regulatory, Standards Setting and Professional Accountancy Bodies Engagement Lead;
- Oversight of Annual Conference and Social Media Engagement Lead;
- International Engagement and Special Interest Group Liaison Lead

All three roles are voluntary and would suit someone who is enthusiastic about building academic networks and who values both international engagement and community development within BAFA.

Role 1: BAFA Executive: Regulatory, Standards Setting and Professional Accountancy Bodies Engagement Lead
The British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) invites expressions of interest for the role of BAFA Executive: Regulatory, Standards Setting and Professional Accountancy Bodies Engagement Lead.
This strategic role aims to strengthen BAFA’s relationships with key UK regulatory, standards setting and professional accountancy organisations, including the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), the UK Endorsement Board (UKEB), ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, ICAS, CPA, AIA, CIPFA and others in order to foster greater collaboration between academia and the accounting profession.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with key international regulatory and standards setting bodies, including the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) (IFRS, ISSB, etc), the Global Reporting Initiative and European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) (European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRs).
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with professional accountancy bodies.
- Identify and support opportunities for collaboration on events, research dissemination, policy consultation, and joint projects.
- Represent BAFA at relevant external meetings and forums.
- Facilitate communication between professional bodies and the wider BAFA community.
- Advise BAFA on emerging issues and opportunities, activities and the evolving priorities of the profession.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will:
- Be a current BAFA member.
- Possess a good understanding of the regulatory, standards setting and professional accountancy landscape in the UK and/or internationally.
- Demonstrate strong communication, networking, and relationship-management skills.
- Be committed to supporting BAFA’s strategic objectives.
Role 2: BAFA Executive: Oversight of Conference and Social Media Engagement Lead
The British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) invites expressions of interest for the role of BAFA Executive: Oversight of Conference and Social Media Engagement Lead. This newly combined role will provide oversight of BAFA’s Annual Conference and lead engagement through social media. The role is vital to maintaining and enhancing BAFA’s national and international presence and visibility. It offers a unique opportunity for a proactive and organised individual to shape the delivery of one of the most important events in the UK accounting and finance academic calendar, while also strengthening the Association’s digital communications and outreach.
Key Responsibilities
Annual Conference Oversight
- Work closely with local conference hosts and the BAFA Executive to support the planning, promotion, and delivery of the Annual Conference.
- Provide guidance on timelines, logistics, and programme structure, ensuring consistency with BAFA’s standards.
- Serve as a point of continuity across annual events, ensuring lessons learned and good practices are shared and applied.
- Lead the process of promoting and selecting annual conference hosts.
Social Media Engagement
- Lead the development of BAFA’s social media presence across platforms (e.g., LinkedIn).
- Promote BAFA activities, events, publications, and achievements through digital content.
- Work with other BAFA officers and committees to support consistent and inclusive messaging.
- Monitor engagement metrics and suggest ways to grow BAFA’s online audience.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will:
- Be a current BAFA member with experience or interest in academic event organisation and digital communications.
- Demonstrate strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Have a good understanding of the academic accounting and finance community in the UK and beyond.
- Be confident of using social media professionally and creatively.
- Be collaborative, responsive, and committed to BAFA’s mission.
Role 3: BAFA Executive: International Engagement and Special Interest Group Liaison
The British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) invites expressions of interest for the role of BAFA Executive: International Engagement and Special Interest Group (SIG) Liaison. This important role supports BAFA’s aim to foster strong connections within the global accounting academic community, while also ensuring effective communication and coordination across BAFA’s growing network of Special Interest Groups.
Key Responsibilities
International Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with accounting and finance academic associations around the world.
- Represent BAFA in international forums and dialogues where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration on conferences, research initiatives, and mutual learning.
- Promote BAFA's presence and visibility within the global academic accounting community.
Special Interest Group (SIG) Liaison
- Act as a central point of contact and facilitate communication between the BAFA Executive and its SIGs.
- Support coordination of SIG activities and events, sharing good practice and helping to resolve common challenges.
- Monitor and report on SIG developments and identify opportunities for collaboration or support.
Person Specification

- Have experience with or involvement in one or more BAFA Special Interest Groups.
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Are organised, responsive, and committed to supporting BAFA’s wider strategic objectives.
