Vacancies: BAFA Vice-President and President Elect

There are several opportunities open for volunteers to work with BAFA. We accept self-nominations and nominations from friends/colleagues for posts. Please do not be too modest or wait to be asked – your interest in any of these positions would be very much welcomed.

BAFA Executive Committee

The British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) invites expressions of interest for the position of Vice-President, who will also serve as President-Elect. This is a prestigious leadership opportunity to help shape the strategic direction and future of the Association and the accounting and finance academic community in the UK and beyond.

  • BAFA Vice-President (1 May 2026–30 April 2028)
  • BAFA President Elect (1 May 2028 – 30 April 2030)

Key Responsibilities

As Vice-President (2026–2028):

  • Support the current President, Executive Committee and Trustees in delivering BAFA’s strategic priorities.
  • Contribute to governance, policy development, and key decisions within BAFA.
  • Represent BAFA at national and international events, academic fora, and with stakeholders such as learned societies, publishers, and funding bodies.
  • Work collaboratively with other BAFA executives, including the President, General Secretary, Treasurer, and CPAF, CDAF, SIGS/Area Groups Chairs, as well as the BAFA administrator.
  • Chair or support sub-committees and task groups as assigned.
  • Oversee and participate actively in BAFA's annual conference organisation and other events.

As President (2028–2030):

  • Provide strategic leadership and overall direction for the Association.
  • Chair the BAFA Executive Committee and other meetings.
  • Oversee the delivery of BAFA’s mission to promote excellence in accounting and finance education, research, and policy.
  • Act as the chief spokesperson and ambassador for BAFA nationally and internationally.
  • Foster collaboration across BAFA’s special interest groups, regional groups, and the wider academic and professional community.
  • Drive innovation in response to developments in the sector, ensuring BAFA remains a leading learned society.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • A senior academic or professional with a strong national and international reputation in accounting or finance.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in academic, professional, or learned society settings.
  • Active engagement in the academic community, including research, teaching, and knowledge exchange.
  • Clear commitment to BAFA’s mission and values, including promoting diversity, inclusion, and early-career development.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to dedicate appropriate time and energy to the role over a four-year term.
  • Active BAFA member or willing to become an active BAFA member by registering as a member at the time of submitting your application (annual membership fee is £15 or £30 depending on your circumstance) (see here: https://bafa.ac.uk/membership/)

Desirable:

  • Prior involvement in BAFA activities, such as special interest groups, conferences, or executive roles.
  • Experience in engaging with external stakeholders, including policymakers, funders, and professional bodies.
  • A strategic thinker with a collaborative leadership style and an inclusive vision for the sector.
