Two Joint Editors sought for the British Accounting Review (BAR): BAFA Online Editor’s Workshop
The British Accounting Review (BAR) journal is the flagship journal of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) and is now in its 56th volume, having been established in 1984. It is highly regarded globally, being rated as a ‘3’ in the Academic Journal Guide and ‘A*’ in the ABDC Journal Quality Guide. In 2023 it had a CiteScore of 8.6 and an Impact factor of 5.5. It is ranked among the top 12 in Business, Management and Accounting and 17 in Business and Finance, and has consistently featured in the top 5 ranked journals in accounting by impact factor over the past five years.
The journal is eclectic and pluralistic in nature, with contributions across a wide range of research methodologies (e.g. analytical, archival, experimental, survey and qualitative case methods) and topics (e.g. financial accounting, management accounting, finance and financial management, auditing, public sector accounting, social and environmental accounting; accounting education and accounting history).
BAFA are seeking two joint editors for a three-year period from 1 May 2025 to 30 April 2028, with the option to renew for a further one-year subject to mutual agreement. To help support the appointment of joint editors, BAFA are holding an online Editor’s workshop on Friday, 11 October 2024 between 13.00-14.30pm (UK time).

At this workshop, you will have the opportunity to hear from editors of BAR. In addition, you will hear from senior editorial members of other prestigious journals including Accounting and Business Research (ABR), the European Accounting Review (EAR) and Financial Accountability and Management (FAM) regarding the benefits and challenges of being an Editor and what are the differences between editing an Association and a non-Association Journal. Attendance at the workshop is free and is open to prospective and current editors, associate editors, reviewers, authors, readers, academics, students, BAFA members and non-BAFA members.
BAFA will provide more details about how to apply for the joint editors position shortly. Appointments will be made in compliance with BAFA’s Diversity and Inclusion Policy and are overseen by our Diversity and Inclusion Monitoring Committee. We are seeking applications from candidates with a good understanding of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA). The current editors of BAR are eligible to apply for this position.
