NOTICE: Professor Philip Molyneux

The British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) and its Financial Markets and Institutions Special Interest Group (FMI SIG) are extremely sad to note the passing of Professor Philip Molyneux.

Phil was a great friend and advocate to many of us in the SIG, BAFA, and the wider profession. A warm and caring person, Phil nurtured the careers of a great number of students and early career researchers. A fabulous colleague and always approachable, Phil was a fountain of knowledge and the best of company. A pioneer and leading light in banking research, Phil’s academic achievements are only exceeded by his generosity of spirit and wonderful character. Phil was not only a consummate educator and researcher, but also an outstanding leader in his own right, notably serving in senior roles, such as Dean, as well as senior editorial roles, like editor-in- chief of major international academic journals. Indeed, due to Phil’s outstanding contributions to the global accounting and finance education, research and leadership, and particularly in banking, BAFA awarded him the prestigious BAFA ‘Distinguished Academic’ award in 2012. We shall all dearly miss Phil.

The funeral will be held at Bangor Crematorium at 11.00 (GMT) on 24 November 2023, and will then be followed by a celebration of Phil’s life at the Management Centre, Bangor University.
