BAFA SITUATIONS VACANT - Accounting Education SIG

There are several opportunities open for volunteers to work with BAFA. We accept self-nominations and nominations from friends/colleagues for posts. Please do not be too modest or wait to be asked – your interest in any of these positions would be very much welcomed. 

Committee of Departments of Accounting and Finance (CDAF)

Expressions of interest are sought for the following three posts on the Executive Committee of CDAF:

  • Chair
  • Secretary
  • Elected Member (Professional body liaison/Memberships)

Elections will take place at the AGM during the conference on 4th May 2023. Candidates present will be given the opportunity to make a brief address, no longer than 300 words, to the meeting. A member of the Executive will read out a short statement at the request of candidates unable to be present at the AGM.

For consideration for these posts we request that those expressing an interest provide a brief statement, not more than 200 words, indicating the contribution you intend to make to the Executive Committee.

Deadline: Expressions of interest for these posts should be emailed to the Chair (cdaf@bafa.ac.uk) and Secretary (sarah.j.jones@swansea.ac.uk) before 12:00 (noon) on 26 May 2023.

The roles involve leading and promoting CDAF (and BAFA) in accordance with their aims. Specifically, for CDAF these are to provide:

  • A body of knowledge, expertise and experience in managing teaching & learning, research excellence and knowledge exchange within the Accounting and Finance discipline; bringing experts together; creating communities of best practice;
  • A resource to support and represent academic managers/leaders and staff within the Accounting and Finance discipline; 
  • A forum for partnerships and collaboration between key stakeholders, including academia, industry and the professional bodies.

Further, the Committee, led by the Executive officers provide due oversight of all of the CDAF activities and ensure compliance with BAFA policies and external compliance such as GDPR.

All Committee members would be expected to attend CDAF committee meetings and the Annual General Meeting. There are normally at least two committee meetings during the year.

The Chair, as leader of the Executive Board, is responsible for reporting the business of CDAF to the Executive Committee of BAFA and to the CDAF AGM, and liaising appropriate with the Executive Board of the Conference of Professors of Accounting & Finance (CPAF). The Chairperson is also an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee of the BAFA. 

The Chair and Vice-Chair shall be nominated by the Executive Board and elected at to serve for a period of two (2) years.

The Secretary is expected to organise and provide minutes for all CDAF committee meetings, mailings to the network via the BAFA administrator and to support the Committee as required. The Secretary shall be appointed by the Executive Board from amongst its members, or exceptionally someone who is not already a member of the Executive Board or member of the Committee for a period of two (2) years.

The elected member is expected to undertake a role liaising with the professional bodies/supporting the Treasurer in the maintenance of the membership details.

All Committee members would be responsible for promoting and organising CDAF workshops and annual conferences, and assisting in the administration of the activities of the Committee including, for example, the early career CDAF bursary scheme.

Appointments are made under our Diversity and Inclusion Policy and are overseen by our Diversity and Inclusion Monitoring Committee.
