BAFA SITUATIONS VACANT: BAFA Executive: Conference, Events and External Relations Lead

BAFA Executive: Conference, Events and External Relations Lead

The British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) invites expressions of interest for the role of BAFA Executive: Conference, Events and External Relations Lead.

This strategic role aims to support the President and Vice- President in advancing the Association’s visibility and external stakeholder engagement, to enhance BAFA’s national and international profile, and to foster stronger connections between academia, policy, and professional practice. In particular, this executive role will focus on the following three areas:

1. Successful delivery of the Association’s Annual Conference;

2. Developing the range of events to benefit members in relation to research, teaching and professional development;

3. Supporting engagement with accounting and finance professional bodies, learned societies and other relevant external organisations.

Key Responsibilities

Annual Conference Delivery and Continuity

  • Work collaboratively with local conference hosts and relevant BAFA officers to support the planning, promotion, and successful delivery of the Annual Conference. 
  • Support the sharing of good practices, lessons learned, and operational guidance across annual conferences.
  • Contribute to discussions relating to conference development, visibility, and member engagement activities.

Member Events and Professional Development

  • Identify and respond to member needs in relation to teaching, research and professional development in collaboration to relevant BAFA officers
  • Support the development and delivery of an annual member-facing events programme covering teaching, research and professional development

External Relations and Professional Engagement

  • Support the President and Vice-President in advancing BAFA’s engagement with accounting and finance professional bodies, learned societies and other relevant external organisations.
  • Facilitate opportunities for collaboration on events, practitioner engagement, research dissemination, and related initiatives.
  • Contribute to BAFA representation and external engagement activities in coordination with relevant BAFA officers

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a current BAFA member.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, networking, relationship-building, and organisational skills.
  • Have experience in organising conferences, workshops and awareness of elements of successful large-scale events management;
  • Have experience in organising conferences, workshops and awareness of elements of successful large-scale events management;
  • Demonstrate experience of, or familiarity with, the accounting and finance academic, professional, or policy landscape.
  • Have experience in the design of continuing professional development (CPD) or an interest in, developing a portfolio of member-facing events.
  • Be able to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders across academia, professional bodies, and external organisations.
  • Be committed to supporting BAFA’s strategic objectives and contributing to the Association’s external profile and wider community engagement activities.
