BAFA SITUATIONS VACANT: Accounting & Finance in Emerging Economies SIG (AFEE)

There are several opportunities open for volunteers to work with BAFA. We accept self-nominations and nominations from friends/colleagues for posts. Please do not be too modest or wait to be asked – your interest in any of these positions would be very much welcomed. 

Accounting & Finance in Emerging Economies Special Interest Group (AFEE SIG)

The main aims of the Accounting and Finance in Emerging Economies SIG are to further the Objects of BAFA by:

  • Encourage and promote research and scholarship on accounting and finance issues relevant to emerging and developing economies.
  • Foster a network of researchers and educators with interests in accounting and finance relevant to emerging and developing economies.
  • Enhance the teaching and learning of accounting and finance within an international context, with particular emphasis on emerging and developing economies.
  • Support PhD students and early-career researchers working on accounting and finance issues pertinent to emerging and developing economies.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the accounting and finance professions, policymakers, professional bodies, and other relevant organisations in the UK and internationally to inform research, practice, and policy.
  • Organise workshops, seminars, and other activities that impactful research and scholarly collaboration in accounting and finance.

There are several opportunities to work with the AFEE SIG Executive Committee: all Committee members have an active role. We invite expressions of interest for the following roles.

  • Chairperson
  • Vice-Chairperson
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Workshop Organiser
  • Social Media Officer

Deadline for receipt of interest: 4 July 2026 at 5pm.

The Chairperson is responsible for:

  • Leading the AFEE SIG, including initiating and managing the overall direction of the SIG.
  • Overseeing the implementation of agreed policies and strategies in line with the AFEE SIG’s constitution.
  • Ensuring that the affairs of the SIG are conducted in a manner that complies with the policies and practices of BAFA.
  • Chairs SIG meetings and represents the SIG on the main BAFA Executive.

The Vice-Chairperson is responsible for:

  • Supporting the Chairperson in reporting the business of the AFEE SIG to the AGM and the Executive Committee of BAFA.
  • Works closely with the Chairperson and takes the lead on a selection of the activities and strategies of the SIG.
  • Deputising for the Chairperson (on SIG and BAFA responsibilities) when required.

The Secretary is responsible for:

  • Performing the required formal record production (e.g., annual report) and records management role of the SIG.
  • Correcting and storing agreed minutes of Executive meetings and General meetings (AGM).
  • In association with the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, responsible for formal communications and dealing with constitutional issues.

The Treasurer is responsible for:

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all AFEE SIG financial transactions, including income, expenditure and sponsorship, as well as
    managing the AFEE SIG bank account, in accordance with BAFA and the SIGs procedures.
  • In co-operation with the Chair and Secretary, monitoring the AFEE SIGs financial position, ensuring resources are used effectively to support events,
    initiatives and strategic priorities of the SIG.
  • Preparing and delivering the AFEE SIG’s annual financial statements to BAFA in a timely manner.

The Workshop Coordinator is responsible for:

  • All aspects relating to the organising of the AFEE SIG workshops including, but not limited to, advertising, managing review of papers, drafting the
    conference schedule.
  • Working with the workshop host on all aspects of the event.
  • Supporting the organisation of other AFEE SIG events.
  • Liaising with the Chairperson and other committee members in respect of AFEE SIG events and activities.

The Social Media Officer is responsible for:

  • Developing and communicating content to promote the AFEE SIG and its activities via social media and other online mediums.
  • Identifying, approaching and cultivating relationships with potential sponsors.
  • Liaising with the Chair and Vice-Chairperson on sponsorship leads.

The new Executive will serve for three (3) years following the AFEE SIG AGM.

The EOI should outline how the nominee has contributed to the BAFA AFEE community and describe the areas of expertise they would bring to the Committee in relation to the role they are applying for.

Note: Appointed candidates will be elected at the next AFEE SIG Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held at the 28th Workshop on Accounting and Finance in Emerging Economies- Southampton University on the 6 July 2026.
