BAFA Becomes Signatory to DORA

Following the decision made at our AGM earlier this year we are pleased to announce that BAFA is now a signatory to the The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). DORA was established ten years ago by academics who are concerned about the inappropriate use of journal metrics as a measure of research quality, especially with regards to making decisions over appointment, promotion and tenure. Over the past decade DORA has grown as an initiative to not just critique the use of these metrics but also develop alternative ways to assess the quality of all forms of research that academics produce (see project TARA).

In future we will be advertising DORA and TARA events, resources and reports, as well as organising relevant activities through BAFA. For the moment we encourage members to check out the DORA and TARA websites.
