Faiths have long had a huge influence on accounting and finance:

  • many teachers and lecturers come from belief and this gives them purpose and resilience
  • professional members often come from faith communities where public interest and fairness are woven into their upbringing
  • the ICAEW got its Royal Charter as a 'Worshipful Company' of Accountants—even the architecture of the building feels like a church.

So why deny what is real and hiding in plain sight?

Many parts of Britain have been transformed by faith and migration. Kingsbury Road in Harrow is one such example where there is a Greek Orthodox Church, a Jain temple, a Hindu temple, an Evangelical Church, and Mosques are nearby too. Having taken leaders on faith experiences for over twenty years, Professor Atul Shah has seen the memorable and transformational effect this has had.

"I have benefited significantly from the community created by BAFA pioneers and volunteers over the years," says Professor Atul Shah, and BAFA is delighted to be able to invite you on a walk with Atul for about two miles to visit these spaces. We will then have lunch and a follow-up discussion about our experiences and how this can help inform our teaching and research.

The cost is £10, and we may have to pay for our own lunch. Please register by midnight on 25 June, and as it is a weekend, partners of BAFA members are also welcome.
